About The Active French School
The Active French School (AFS) was founded by Jean-Christophe Barré, a native French speaker born and raised in Normandy, France. Jean-Christophe has a Masters Degree in French Literature and Linguistics from the University of Caen. He also holds a BA in teaching French as a Second Language. For over ten years, he taught French in various language schools in Paris and Provence including Crea-Langues, a leading Institution for Intensive French Language Programs. Jean-Christophe also taught at the University of New Hampshire and is currently a French Lecturer at Merrimack College and a French Adjunct Instructor at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.
He currently lives in Kittery, Maine and has been sharing his unique experience as a French teacher with students around the Seacoast area. Group or private classes, French literature classes, French for kids, intensive training: whatever your preferred format or pace, Jean-Christophe will be happy to meet your needs through custom services. AFS also offers online instruction, making it possible to learn French from anywhere in the world!
Furthermore, Jean-Christophe offers on-site French Training for companies- an initiative that has been a real success! The list of satisfied clients includes Lonza Inc, Safran, Snecma, Albany Corporate International, Albany Engineered Composites and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
" Teaching is a wonderful way of sharing tastes, cultures and experiences, and has led to many friendships. I am passionate about French language and literature, and love to share insights about my culture, history and current events. I adore helping students understand how the French language works by explaining its particularities. I love helping students use French in real-life situation, coaching them before a trip or for business. I know how to make learning fun and enjoyable, and I am always seeking new strategies for getting students to improve their French conversation skills. And they do! Teaching has always been very natural to me and has proven richly rewarding over the years. I also enjoy promoting French through events that bring Francophiles together. To these ends, I regularly create opportunities where people can speak French while drinking a glass of wine, playing pétanque and socializing. I even arrange French conversation excursions to Montreal!"
Known for its comfortable and easy learning environment, the Active French School provides wonderful opportunities for getting close to France and Francophone culture.
Bienvenue!
